There are several technical methods for ceramic sintering:
(1) Normal pressure sintering: also known as pressureless sintering. It belongs to the process of free sintering of the green body under atmospheric pressure. The material begins to sinter without external force, and the temperature generally reaches the melting point of the material of 0.5-0.8. A suitable heating system can ensure that the product reduces cracking and structural defects and improves the yield.
(2) Hot pressing sintering and hot isostatic pressing: Hot pressing sintering refers to applying a certain pressure (at 10 to 40 MPa) during the firing process to promote accelerated flow, rearrangement and densification of the material.
(3) Reaction sintering: This is a method of sintering a material by reacting a gas phase or a liquid phase with a matrix material.
In addition to the reaction sintering of silicon carbide and silicon nitride, a reaction-sintering aluminum oxide method has recently appeared, and Al2O3 and Al2O3-Al composite materials can be prepared by Al powder oxidation reaction, and the material properties are good.
(4) Liquid phase sintering: Many oxide ceramics use low melting point auxiliaries to promote material sintering. The addition of additives generally does not affect the properties of the material or instead has a good effect on a certain function.
(5) Microwave sintering method: a method in which direct heating is performed by microwave energy for sintering. At present, there is a microwave sintering furnace with a volume of 1 cubic meter and a firing temperature of up to 1650oC. If a controlled atmosphere graphite auxiliary furnace is used, the temperature can be as high as 2000oC or more.
(6) Arc plasma sintering method: The heating method is different from the hot pressing method. When a stress is applied, a pulse power source is applied to the product, and the material is toughened and densified.
(7) Self-propagating sintering method: It is made of precision ceramic material by rapid chemical exothermic reaction of the material itself. More than 200 compounds such as carbides, nitrides, oxides, intermetallic compounds and composites can be synthesized by this method.
(8) Vapor deposition method: divided into physical vapor phase method and chemical vapor phase method. The most important methods in physical methods are sputtering and evaporation deposition. In the sputtering method, electrons are bombarded in a vacuum to a flat target, and the target atoms are excited and coated on the sample substrate.
The chemical vapor deposition method is a method in which a substrate is heated while a reaction gas or a gas mixture is introduced, and a product which is decomposed or reacted at a high temperature is deposited on a substrate to form a dense material.
Conventional heating or drying involves convection or convection and radiation combined gas or electrical resistance heating, which is commonly used in the manufacture of ceramic materials to dehumidify ceramic green bodies.
The heating rates associated with conventional heating methods, temperature control and heat applications often result in high energy consumption and unstable product quality.

Thin-walled cylindrical ceramic green bodies, such as cylindrical ceramic green bodies having a honeycomb structure with a honeycomb density of from 100 to 1600 cells per square inch, when the moisture contained therein is less than about 5% of the initial moisture content, The ceramic green body is sufficiently dry for processing purposes.
